The Medieval Era, also called The Middle Ages, lasted from around the year 600, when the Roman legions that had dominated much of Europe were recalled to Rome, until the stirrings of the Renaissance, which began in Italy in the 14th century and spread slowly northward throughout the rest of Europe.
